Percussion Concert Set for Dec. 5

The UW-River Falls percussion ensemble will present a free concert on Thursday, Dec. 5.

The concert is set for 8 p.m. in the William Abbott Concert Hall.

Under the direction of J. Michael Roy, the program will include many works. Among them are "Storm Warning and Dance," by Steve Riley, an atmospheric piece with a wide dynamic range; "Ku-Ka Ilimoku" by Christopher Rouse, a savage, propulsive war dance that depicts Ku, the Hawaiian God of War; "Selections from Mass," by Leonard Bernstein, an arrangement of the ground-breaking chorale work from 1971; and "Rhythmic Configurations" by Roy, a recent composition commissioned by the Ellsworth High School percussion ensemble.

Kyle Bonderson and Ryan McCarthy, two senior members of the UW-RF ensemble, will be featured as soloists in John Beck's "Concertos for Timpani and Drum Set." The mallet ensemble will perform selections from the holiday favorite, "Nutcracker Suite," by Peter Tschaikovski.

Ensemble members are Janelle Beery, Kyle Bonderson, Melissa Clifford, Jeff Fahrendorff, Becki Hedstrom, Missy Manford, Ryan McCarthy, Shanthi Mirsberger, Jean Olstad, Stephanie Rendell, Dawn Stafki and Emily Way.
