UW-RF Music Department Sets the Mood For The Holidays
November 20, 1998
Three holiday music festivities have been set by UW-River Falls.
A free holiday concert featuring the UW-RF Orchestra is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 in the William Abbott Concert Hall of the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building.
According to Professor Kristin Tjornehoj, who will conduct the orchestra, the concert also will provide entertainment for families from three regional shelters. They will be sponsored through a $750 UW-RF service learning grant, according to Jill Javor, a sophomore from Apple Valley, Minn., who is coordinating their visit.
Javor noted that community members who would like to donate gifts or money to the shelter families can contact her or Tjornehoj at 75/425-3940.
Three holiday concerts featuring the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, the Women's Chorus, the Male Quartet and the Brass Ensemble will be Dec. 5 and 7 at 8 p.m., and Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building.
Soloists include music faculty members Kathryn Moen, who will perform organ works by French, German, and American composers, and Joy Scheib, a mezzo soprano who will sing while accompanied on the piano by Lillian Tan.
Also participating in the performance with holiday poetry readings will be UW-RF College of Arts & Sciences Dean Gorden O. Hedahl, speech Professor James Pratt and Student Senate President Mac Guptil.
Admission to these concerts are free, but require reservations. Call 715/425-3183 for tickets.
Another festivity for this holiday season is the "Hearty Yuletide Feaste," hosted by the UW-RF Chamber Singers at Rodli Commons on Friday, Dec. 11, and Saturday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. The banquet cost is $30 per person. A party of 15 will receive a free dinner. Reservations will be accepted until Dec. 4.
For more information on the Feaste, call choral director Grace Cajiuat at 715/425-3183.
