UW-RF to Share Research, Creative Activities
UW-River Falls students will display their creative activities and research projects on topics ranging from biotechnology and psychology to dance and physics at an event on Monday, Nov. 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 in the River Room of Rodli Commons. The public is invited, admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
"The event is sponsored by the Society for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities, a campus-wide student organization that exists to enhance a research culture on campus," said biology Professor Tim Lyden, who serves as faculty advisor for the group. "Visitors will have the opportunity to view presentations, talk with the authors and artists who created the projects, and listen to readings."
UW-RF has actively developed a supportive environment for research, scholarly and creative activities that includes RSCA Day each spring; the Ronald McNair Scholars Program, a federally-funded project that helps 12 to 15 students prepare for Ph.D. programs; and collaborative RSCA grants that support student-faculty projects in any discipline.
It also includes the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, a national three-day conference which brings more than 2,000 undergraduates together to present their projects; and the UW-RF Foundation, which has committed $10,000 for undergraduate stipends for 2002-2003.
SURSCA has more than 30 members and supporters. The immediate goals of the organization are to help at least 30 UW-RF students attend NCUR in 2003, publish a UW-RF RSCA journal, and contribute to developing a research culture on campus.
