Jazzax Saxophone Quartet to Perform at UW-RF
The JAZZAX Saxophone Quartet will perform at the UW-River Falls Abbott Concert Hall on Dec. 9 as part of the Wyman Concerts and Lectures Series.
The quartet is dedicated to the exploration and performance of jazz and improvised music for saxophone quartet. The group performs original music composed by its members, arrangements of jazz classics and newly composed works commissioned by the JSQ.
Their repertoire includes jazz favorites from such impresarios as Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane.
They are based in the St. Paul/Minneapolis region and present workshops at public schools, performing arts institutions and universities.
Members include UW-River Falls Associate Professor of music David Milne; Michael Walk, an instrumental music instructor for the Stillwater, Minn., area schools and UW-RF alumnus; Pete Whitman, head of the brass and woodwinds department at Musitech College in St. Paul; and Greg Keel, a faculty member at the MacPhail Center for the Arts, Normandale College, University of Wisconsin Indianhead Arts and Education Center.
Guest artists for this performance are Laura Caviani on piano and Phil Hey on drums.
