UW-RF Alumni Weekend set for June 27-28
UW-River Falls will celebrate its eighteenth annual Alumni Weekend Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28, on campus, with festivities that will include dinners, entertainment, campus tours, and a groundbreaking ceremony for the University's $11.5 million suite-style residence hall.
Following an afternoon of registration events on Friday, the weekend will kick off with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 5:30 p.m. in the Hagestad Student Center courtyard, followed by a barbecue dinner and entertainment by the Brian Fesler Bluegrass Band, sponsored by the Wyman Summer Concert Series. Saturday's events will begin with a continental breakfast in the President's Room of the Student Center.
Tours of the four colleges of the University will be conducted throughout the day.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. for the new South Fork Suites residence hall on the east side of campus near Crabtree Hall. A picnic lunch of brats and burgers will follow, at which Chancellor Ann Lydecker will provide an update on the University's activities and socialize with alumni. After an ice cream social at 4 p.m., the evening activities will begin, including cocktails and hors d'oeuvres with entertainment provided by UW-RF publications Director Kevin Bertelsen on the piano, dinner and awards, and a presentation of ghost stories by UW-RF journalism professor emeritus Michael Norman.
Norman is the author of a series of five collections of ghost stories. For more information, contact Daniel McGinty at the University Advancement Office, at 715/425-3505. The deadline for registration is Friday, June 20.
