Alumna's Gift Restores Pianos
Mary Ella Jerome, head of the Mary Ella Jerome Family Foundation in Barron, Wis., presented the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Music Department with assistance to restore several pianos, including two concert grand pianos used in public performances.
The Music Department honored Jerome with an Honors Recital on May 8 at the Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building at UW-River Falls. In addition, she was presented with a certificate of appreciation.
Jerome graduated in 1974 from UW-River Falls with a bachelor of science degree in music education, with an emphasis in piano/vocal music. She also holds an M.B.A from UW-Madison. While a student at UW-River Falls, she was a member of the concert choir, piano ensemble, orchestra, and New Music Ensemble.
She has taught vocal music, grades 7-12, at Blue Earth (Minn.) High School as well as business management at Mankato (Minn.) State University. She currently works at the Jennie-O Turkey Store as a management training consultant. Jerome is a past president of the Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs and the Barron Federated Music Club.
She has been instrumental in bringing performing groups to the Barron Area Community Center, and she also uses the gift of music in her church, as an organist, choir director, and pianist.
Her ties to UW-RF are strong; her mother, the late Marion Estenson Jerome, her aunts, Lola Estenson Yde and the late Lila Estenson Byng, and as well as cousins and nieces also attended UW-RF.
