Alumni Weekend Set for June 25-26

UW-River Falls will celebrate its 19th annual Alumni Weekend Friday, June 25, and Saturday, June 26, on campus, with festivities that include a pig roast, blues band, picnic, campus tours, and special presentation by Professor Ed Peterson, recipient of this year's Distinguished Teacher Award.

Registration begins at 2 p.m. on June 25 in the Presidents' Room of the Hagestad Student Center. From 3 to 4:30 p.m. participants can choose to take a bus tour of campus or view videos spotlighting distinguished alumni, including NASA Astronaut Dan Brandenstein, international explorer Wong How Man or motivational speaker Roxanne Emmerich.

At 5:30 p.m. the weekend will kick off with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the Student Center courtyard (inside if rain), followed by an old-fashioned pig roast. Entertainment at 7 p.m. is by the Keith Scott and his Electrifying Blues at the Wall Amphitheater (North Hall Auditorium if rain). The concert is sponsored by the UW-RF Summer Concert Series.

Events June 26 begin with a continental breakfast in the President's Room of the Student Center from 8 to 11 a.m. Tours of the University's five colleges will be conducted throughout the day.

At 11 a.m. Leon Zaborowski, dean of the College of Outreach and Graduate Studies, will give a special presentation on the University's outreach activities as a resource and change agent. Zaborowski is the author of three books, most recently a co-author of "Reaching Learners through Telecommunications."

A picnic of brats and burgers at the Student Center will follow, including a special welcome, campus update and question-and-answer session with Interim Chancellor Virgil Nylander.

At 1:45 p.m. alumni will assemble for group photos, and an ice cream social is at 4:15 p.m. in the Student Center. Evening festivities begin at 6 p.m. in the River Room of Rodli Commons with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Entertainment provided by UW-RF Publications Director Kevin Bertelsen on the piano. A dinner and awards banquet starts at 7 p.m. with a special presentation by History Professor Ed Peterson, who a half-century of teaching experience at UW-RF.
