Summer Sports Camps Set

There are several sports camps being held at UW-River Falls this summer for students interested in improving their individual and team skills. Camps will be held in football, girls volleyball, and boys and girls basketball. There are three football camps - Kickers, Wishbone and Big O & Big D. The Kickers Camp is June 19-21 and will feature Baltimore Ravens special teams coach Gary Zauner. The goal of the camp is to improve every punter and kicker by maximizing repetition and perfecting each individual style.

There are two sessions of the Wishbone Camp - July 10-13 at UWRF and July 31 - Aug. 2 held at St. Johns Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. The Big O & Big D Camp is July 10-13 at UW-RF. The camp concentrates on fundamental skills that will apply to any high school football player at all positions. There are three camps for boys basketball - Youth Day Camp, Skill Development Camp and the Great Falcon Shoot Out. The Youth Day Camp is for boys in grades 3-5 and will be held June 15-18. The Skill Development Camp is for boys grades 6-8 and will be held June 15-18. The Great Falcon Shoot Out is a tournament for high school boys teams and will be held June 19-20. Pool play will be held with four games guaranteed followed by a championship tourney. All the camps are at UW-RF. For more information contact the camp office at 1-877-RF HOOPS (toll free).

There are three camps for girls basketball - Skills and Drills Camp, Hoops Challenge Team Camp and the Team Challenge Camp. The Skills and Drills Camp is for girls in grades 3-5 (9 a.m. - Noon) and for girls in grades 6-9 (1-4 p.m.). The camp is for commuters only and the emphasis is on basic fundamentals of basketball. The camp will be held June 14-17 at UW-RF. The Hoops Challenge Team Camp will be held July 11-14 at UW-RF. It is for girls in grades 7-12 and is for overnight and commuter campers. This camp is designed for basketball players with more experience beyond basic level skills. The emphasis is on individual player development (offensively and defensively) and its impact on team development. The Team Challenge Camp will be held June 26-27 at UW-RF. The camp will feature pool play into a championship bracket with four games guaranteed. For more information call 715/4254-3250.

There are three camps for girls volleyball - Setter-Hitter Camp, Individual Development Camp and the Team Camp. The Setter-Hitter Camp will be held June 28 - July 1 at UW-RF. It is for girls in grades 10-12. It is designed for residents or commuters. The Individual Development Camp will be held June 21-24 at UW-RF. This camp is designed to introduce young and experienced players to the sport of power volleyball. Each athlete will receive great teaching on individual skills, specialty positions, game concepts and scrimmages. Camp highlights include low coach/player ratio, grouped by age and abilities, and quality and individualized instruction. It is designed for residents or commuters.

The Team Camp will be held July 19-21 at UW-RF and is designed for individuals and their teams. It is a unique combination of team instruction and competition in a camp setting. Teams will be trained together by a coach provided by UW-RF. Concepts implemented will include 3-4 person serve reception, transition and free ball plays, hitter coverage, and rotational defense. Camp will be limited to 16 teams. Each team must have a minimum of six players and a maximum of eight players. All team camp registrations must be sent together in a single envelope as a team. It is for girls in grades 9-12.
