UW-RF Senior Receives Elementary Education Award
Jeff Leslie, a senior education major at UW-River Falls, received the 2004 Outstanding Student in Elementary Education Award at a reception in April.
The award recognizes the top senior in the elementary education program and is selected by professors in the College of Education and Professional Studies.
Leslie was chosen for the award based on his quality academic work and his sensitive, responsive teaching during his field experience placements. As part of his academic requirements, he was assigned to more than 300 hours of field experience placements in elementary and middle school classrooms prior to student teaching.
His professors describe him as a conscientious and hardworking person who is continually analyzing and reflecting on his authentic teaching practices. His professors also cited his dedication and caring ways, recalling how he wrote letters to his students after he was unexpectedly called away from a field placement for an overseas military assignment last spring.
Leslie works for the Technology Leadership Cadre, a group of students who provide technology training to University faculty and students, as well as K-12 faculty in eight school systems.
He is also a member of the Naval Reserve and volunteers as a youth minister at his church. He is the son of Stephen Leslie and Jill Leslie, both of Peshtigo. He will graduate from UW-RF Dec. 18.
