SCVRTA Hosts Golf Tournament at Stone Ridge

Wisconsin Tourism Secretary Jim Holperin and Minnesota Tourism Director John Edman will be among the golfers in the St. Croix Valley Regional Tourism Alliance golf tournament and banquet on May 11 at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Stillwater, Minn.

Stone Ridge was named the number one best public access course in Minnesota in 2002 by "Golfweek" and one of the top 100 courses for women by "Golf for Women" magazine.

This marks the first time the two state's secretaries have participated jointly in a golf tournament. The event coincides with National Tourism Week activities and presents an opportunity for the two tourism leaders to promote the industry together during that national celebratory week, said Mark Kinders, president of the Alliance.

SCVRTA includes chambers of commerce, business associations and hospitality and tourism businesses in 19 communities along the Lower St.Croix National Scenic Riverway. Funds raised through the tournament and banquet will be used to help market the Valley as a tourism destination, Kinders said.

The handicapped best ball (scramble) is for both serious and casual golfers. The players can compete for prizes in team, individual hole and event categories.

A buffet dinner and dessert auction will also be offered. Other entertainment includes games, a raffle for the Paul Molitor Hall of Fame package, which contains an autographed baseball, cap and shirt, and a silent auction, which features golfing items and other goods from the Valley, such as gift certificates, crafts or art.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at noon, followed by a social and silent auction from 5-6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The registration fee for the golf tournament, which includes green and cart fees, door prizes, a tournament memento, dinner and entertainment in $100 per person. For just the dinner and entertainment the cost is $30 per person. Registration is due by May 1.

Registration forms for the tournament and banquet can be obtained on the Alliance's web site at www.saintcroixriver.com. For more information about registering or becoming a tournament sponsor, contact Tournament Director Rich Hafdahl at 715/294-2334 or rlhafdahl@attbi.com.
