'Arts of the Valley' Celebration set May 4
By Jolene Bracy
An evening gala and auction, "Arts of the Valley," will be held aboard the Grand Duchess in Hudson on Friday, May 4. Sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Regional Tourism Alliance, the event is scheduled during National Tourism Week.
"Arts of the Valley" debuts with a champagne social and music by a string ensemble at 6 p.m. The first 25 reservations will be entered in a drawing to dine at the Captain¹s Table. The four winning couples will be served "special" champagne and each lady will receive a rose.
The Grand Duchess will be moored at Hudson¹s Lakefront Park for the entire evening¹s event. On board activities include a magician and "Doctor Doolittle¹s Trot for Tourism," a fund-raising race which will be held on the deck of the Grand Duchess.
Entrée selections of roasted pork with apple demi-glaze or baked chicken are offered. The menu also includes whipped garlic potatoes, an array of pasta salads and Afton House Inn Creamy Caesar Salad, rolls, butter, dessert and coffee. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. A cash bar is available.
The highlight of the evening is the live art auction showcasing creations from St. Croix Valley artisans in a variety of mediums. A silent auction also will be held. Items featured for silent auction in the past have included stays at bed and breakfasts, dinner gift certificates from area restaurants and gift baskets. The auctions are scheduled from 9-10:30 p.m.
Tickets for "Arts of the Valley" are $25 per person and can be purchased through the New Richmond Chamber of Commerce, at 1-800-654-6380 or 715/246-2900, or the evening of the event.
