Palmer to be Honored by UW Board of Regents
First National Bank President Tom Palmer will be feted by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents with a Partnership Award on April 4 for his service to UW-River Falls.
The award will be presented during a ceremony to be held at Brittingham House, the official residence of UW System President Katharine Lyall, and will recognize nominees from each of the System's 15 campuses for their service to public higher education.
In recognition of the thousands of individuals and organizations that make extraordinary contributions to University of Wisconsin institutions, the UW Board of Regents instituted the new "Partnership Award," on the occasion of the UW Systemıs 30th anniversary. It acknowledges an extraordinary contribution to the campus and to the UW System.
Palmer was nominated by UW-RF Chancellor Ann Lydecker, who cited "his vast commitments of time and energy, and his good nature as he serves our university and the entire River Falls community."
Said Lydecker, "Tom has worked tirelessly as a UW-River Falls Foundation Board Member, contributing as a member of its Investment Committee and also representing the Foundation on special committees and projects. Tom serves as a Business Advisory Board member for our new College of Business and Economics, and he has provided a great deal of helpful community input for our new CBE Dean Barbara Nemecek. Last year, he spent many hours as a member of the Inaugural Week Planning Committee and he was highly successful in fund-raising for the weekıs activities."
In addition, Palmer is chair of the UW-RF Day Care Building Project for the design and construction of the project, working closely with UW-RF Student Services staff and faculty in the early childhood education program.
Lydecker also noted Palmer's many other community service activities, including serving on the board of the St. Croix Valley YMCA in Hudson and as a founding board member of the River Falls YMCA. He also has been active on the Board and the Vocational Committee of the River Falls Rotary Club, and he participates frequently in its Volunteer Rotary Reading program at Westside Elementary School in River Falls.
"This event will provide a special opportunity for the Regents to celebrate the excellence of the UW System and to reaffirm the importance of the individuals and organizations within and outside the UW System who are vital to our success," said UW System Board of Regents President Jay L. Smith of the awards ceremony.
Palmer is president, chief executive officer, and vice chairman of First National Bank of River Falls. Previously he spent 15 years as president of Franklin Bancorp, Inc., a Minneapolis-based community bank holding company. He also worked for Norwest Bank in St. Paul for 10 years and served in the Minnesota Air National Guard for eight years. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota.
