14 Students Attend Professional Dairy Producers Conference
Fourteen UW-RF students attended the annual business conference of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin March 5-6 on scholarships provided by the Land O' Lakes Educational Foundation.
Animal Science Professors Dennis Cooper and Steve Kelm accompanied them to the conference. Cooper said the conference program included workshops oriented to dairy farm business management, a trade show and speakers. Keynote speaker national television farm broadcaster Orion Samuelson spoke on "Playing in the Big Leagues." Each student was matched with a dairy producer and member of PDPW , who served as a mentor to accompany the student throughout the two-day event. Said Cooper, "This was a chance for us to show dairy producers that UW-RF is interested in knowing what they are doing, so we can prepare students for the industry. Some of our students took their resumes along to leave with dairy producers or exhibitors at the trade show."
Students were selected for the scholarships based on their grades, extracurricular involvement in dairy activities and goals for the future.
The recipients included: dairy science majors Matthew Bendixen, a senior from River Falls; Jennifer Bonde, a senior from Elkhart Lake; and Renis Delgado, a senior from Monagrillo Chitre, Panama; and agricultural education major Aimee Finley, a senior from Saint Charles, Minn. Also selected were: dairy science majors Cory Gabor, a senior from West Bend; Matthew Hartwig, a junior from Little Falls, Minn.; Chad Kieffer, a senior from Utica, Minn.; and Stephanie Lindner, a senior from Greenwood; animal science major Holly Lonning from Neillsville; and agricultural business major Luke Miller, a junior from Lewiston, Minn.
