Dance Theatre Spring Concert Set for April 8-13

The UW-River Falls Dance Theatre will present its annual Spring Concert April 8-13 at 8 p.m. in the Davis Theatre of the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building on the UW-RF campus.

As always, the concert will consist of a unique blend of choreography by students and guests. The jazz work of Twin Cities choreographer and dance faculty member Torrion Amie will be included, as will a historic reconstruction of two 1950s dance forms, the Bop and the Madison, by alumnus Lance Benishek. Benishek is a master teacher of American classic dance who conducts workshops on American dance forms throughout the United States and internationally.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of UW-RF Dance Theatre, UW-RF alumni Kimberly Johnson, Adel Swan, Heather Mullinax and Raena Holmberg will return as guest choreographers to share their inventive and technically demanding works. Alumni Jane Kasper of Durham, N.C., and Troy Dixen of Elk Mound will perform A duet, "One More Kiss," and alumnus Sarah Klein of St. Cloud, Minn., will perform a spiritual solo choreographed by Desire Leigh of Minneapolis.

The Puerto Rican "Bomba," originally presented in 1999, will be performed again this year. The concert will conclude with a large group piece, "Coralline," danced by 29 members of the Dance Theatre and choreographed by Dance Theatre Director Karla Zhe.

Ticket prices are $4 for students and children, and $7 for adults.

For preview night on Monday, April 8, University students may purchase two tickets for $4.

Because an alumni celebration is planned for Saturday, April 13, tickets for that night's performance will be limited.

Members of the University and the River Falls community are encouraged to attend performances Monday through Friday. Tickets will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, April 1, through Friday, April 12, at the ticket office in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. Tickets will also be available each performance evening from 6-8 p.m. Ticket reservations are recommended.
