UW-RF Planning Inauguration Week
A celebration of the educational mission and regional leadership of UW-River Falls will be the theme for Inauguration Week, set for April 23-28.
The week's activities will culminate in the Installation Ceremony of Dr. Ann Lydecker as the 14th chancellor in the University's 126-year history. That ceremony is set for noon on April 28 and will feature an Inaugural Address by Lydecker in which she will outline her vision of UW-RF for the next decade.
Several dozen faculty, staff and students have been planning the Inauguration Week activities since the beginning of the academic year. Many of those events will be of particular interest to K-12 teachers and their students.
Among the many events that are free and open to the public are:
Unity in the Community multicultural day. Wednesday, April 24, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Hagestad Student Center and Campus Mall. Concerts, musical and dance performances, food, lectures and exhibits celebrating diversity. It features a pow wow with Heart of the Earth Dancers at 11 a.m. followed by a Native American feast, and is always popular with elementary and middle school students. There will be performances by the Shalita African Trio, and the Jesse White Tumbling Team. For more information about this event, contact Dawn Gallinger at 715/425-4911.
"Educational Change through P-16 Partnerships." Friday, April 29, 2-4 p.m., Kleinpell Fine Arts Building Theater. Nationally recognized educational reform leader UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Nancy Zimpher will discuss effective partnerships between school districts, technical colleges and higher education partners. Panelists Francine Tompkins of UW-Green Bay and Ron Jetty of WEAC will discuss their experiences with linking P-12 education with professional education.
Installation Concert and Ceremony 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Robert P. Knowles Center. Performances by the Concert Choir, Women's Chorus, University Choir and Men's Chorus, Symphony Orchestra, and Faculty Brass. Followed by the Installation Ceremony. Hundreds of faculty, staff, and representatives of higher education institutions and Learned Societies will participate in academic attire in a Formulary Ceremony for the Installation of Dr. Ann M. Lydecker as the University's 14th chancellor.
Community Reception. 2 p.m. Hagestad Student Center Mall. Observes, marchers and friends can welcome Chancellor Lydecker at the conclusion of her Installation into office.
Fireworks. 9 p.m. East Campus Mall. A fireworks extravaganza will conclude the Inauguration Day festivities. Many other activities also are scheduled throughout the week, including Scholarly Research Day, the Wisconsin Art Education Association Spring Conference, and a meeting of the Chancellors of the University of Wisconsin System. Displays of UW-RF history and partnerships will be exhibited, too.
