Senior Outreach Studies Announces Presentations

Classes for Session III of Senior Outreach Studies have been announced by UW-River Falls. Open to area senior citizens, the classes begin on Tuesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 15, and continue for three weeks.

The "For Your Information" series meets on Tuesdays. Presentations in the areas of agriculture, criminal justice system, financial planning and weather forecasting are covered. They are:

• March 13, "The Emerging Agriculture of the New Century," taught by Larry Swain, Agriculture Resource Center, UW-RF.

• March 27, "Race in the Criminal Justice System," Rich Wallace, department of sociology anthropology and criminal justice, UW-RF.

• April 3, "Living and Leaving a Legacy," John Levi, District Representative, Lutheran Brotherhood.

• April 10, "Cloud Formations: Short-term Weather Forecasters," Michael Albert, department of geography, UW-RF.

The Thursday class, "Let There Be Music," discusses a variety of musical styles. This session includes a "coffee concert" field trip to Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Minn.

• March 15, "From Calypso to Chutney: Music of Trinidad, " Ila June Brown Pratt, retired music faculty, UW-RF.

• March 29, "The Physics of Music," Curt Larson, department of physics, UW-RF

• April 5, Coffee Concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. The selection is "Wigglesworth Leads Shostakovich No. 15"

•April 12, "Music of the World," Roger Tweiten, musician and retired music teacher River Falls.

Classes meet in the Presidentıs Room of the Hagestad Student Center from 9:30 ­11:30 a.m. and are open area seniors age 55 and older. Classes will not meet during Spring Break, March 19-23.

Each class includes a presentation, coffee break and a discussion period. Parking is available on the corner of Oak Street and Spring Street in the Visitorıs Lot. Parking permits will be issued the first day of class.
