Nego Gato: Afro-Brazilian Music And Dance
A concert of Afro-Brazilian music and dance by the Nego Gato Ensemble will be Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. in the North Hall Auditorium at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Principal of the ensemble and a native Bahian of Salvador, Brazil, Nego Gato (Black Cat) is a master performer of the martial art Capoeira as well as a composer, vocalist, percussionist and choreographer.
The ensemble will feature Capoeira artists, dancers, percussionists, and Afro-Brazilian folkloric traditions. The ensemble uses rhythms and movements created by descendents of Africans in Salvador, Bahia, and Brazil. At the end of the performance, the audience is invited to participate in dancing and playing percussion instruments.
The concert is part of the Wyman Series and is open to the public. The cost is free to UW-RF students with ID and $5 for non-students. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the UW-RF Leadership Center at 715/425-4911.
