Michael Fitzl

I was originally working towards a chemical engineering degree, but have since seen the light and became a physics major. I’m an avid outdoorsman and enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. You can usually find me working on miscellaneous projects around the house when I find time. I also enjoy getting lost in a good computer game every now and then.

This summer I had the opportunity to travel to Sweden with Forest Kirschbaum. Our research there involved work on a bubble camera system that is to be deployed in the ice at Antarctica. The goal is to analyze how the ice refreezes around a DOM and the resulting bubble density. This will help IceCube researchers re-create the path of a passing muon. We also helped in the preparation of an IceTop tank that will be traveling on the Oden Cruise.

With only two semester’s left I am on track to complete my degree on time! As a senior, I look forward to graduating this spring. With any luck, I’ll find an entry level position with an engineering firm. After graduating I plan to stay in River Falls and start pursuing my hobbies more avidly.
