Chancellor Betz Begins

BetzDr. Don Betz commenced his duties on July 1 as university chancellor and began meeting with faculty and staff. "I am focusing on familiarization with the campus, programs, facilities and relations with the community as well as the UW System," says Betz.

In an email message, Betz sent words of encouragement to the campus community. "As we reconsider the university mission and as we craft our plan of how to live that mission, we will be more successful in telling the UW-RF story and the inextricable connection between university success and our communities and state realizing economic, social and civic goals," he said. More information about the Chancellor's arrival will be featured in the next Falcon Features magazine due out in September.

Summer Construction on Campus

Passersby will notice two tall cranes piercing the University of Wisconsin – River Falls skyline this summer during construction of the new student union. Both a 35-foot and a 55-foot Grove All-Terrain Crane are needed to shuttle building material from the ground up as the student union emerges. More

UW-RF Set to Host Season 15 with Chiefs

For the 15th consecutive year, the Kansas City Chiefs football team will hold its summer training camp at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Chiefs will arrive on July 27 and practice until their departure on August 19. More

Despite the warm, humid weather, some 80 alumni and friends turned out for the 20th Annual Alumni Weekend celebration June 24-25 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. More

Dr. Steve Swensen Cancer Researcher Named Distinguished Alumnus 2005

SwensonSteve Swensen, an internationally respected leader in cancer research and a 1978 UW-RF graduate, has been named the recipient of the 2005 University of Wisconsin-River Falls Distinguished Alumnus Award. Swensen is a professor and head of radiology at the Mayo Medical Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he has been at the forefront of cancer research. More

New Student Move-In Day

moving vanSaturday, Sept.3, marks New Student Move-In Day on the UW-RF campus. Alumni are invited to visit with fellow classmates and share the fun and excitement as students get comfortable in the dorms. UW-RF Alumni t-shirts, shift schedules, refreshments and a light lunch will be provided for participating alums. New Student Move-In Day is also a great opportunity to take a peek at the new building projects on campus. Call Dan McGinty, Alumni Director in the Office of University Advancement at 1-877-258-6647 for more information or to register.

Distinguished Alumnus Day

Please join us for Distinguished Alumnus Day on Wednesday, October 26. Dr. Steve Swensen, recipient of the 2005 UW-RF Distinguished Alumnus Award, will speak in the Abbott Concert Hall with a reception to follow in Gallery 101. Both venues are located in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. These events are free and open to the public.

Homecoming

Mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 29, and make your plans to join your friends for a tailgate celebration under Freddy's Tent at Ramer Field. Other scheduled events include an alumni and friend's coffee hour, campus tours, and various reunions that start before and after the football game. UW-RF is set to face off with UW-Platteville for the homecoming game at 1 p.m.

Credit Card Program

In 1988, the Office of University Advancement and the WESTconsin Credit Union joined efforts to create a credit card program for alumni, staff, faculty, and friends of UW-RF. Each time cardholders use their cards, WCU returns a percentage of each purchase to the UW-RF Foundation. The Foundation uses those funds to support the UW-River Falls Community Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded each year to a student who meets the criteria. Over time, the goal is to grow the fund so that multiple scholarships may be awarded to deserving students. To date, the fund totals over $27,000. More
