Location
The Area Research Center & University Archives is located in Room 121 on the ground floor of the Chalmer Davee Library on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. For a map and driving directions, click here. Metered lots and street parking are available on campus. Additional information about visitor parking can be found from the UW-RF Parking Office.

Fees
 
The center does not have a research fee at this time. Donations to the center are always appreciated and can be sent directly to the River Falls Area Research Center or made through the University Foundation. Small fees do apply to printing and photocopying.
 
  • Photocopies, Microform Copies and Printer Pages: 10 cents per page
  • Color Printer Pages: 50 cents per page
  • Photographic Image Replication: $3 (additional fees apply to oversized or special requests)

Note: Image duplication must not violate donor agreements or copyright laws nor may duplicated images be used for commercial purposes. The researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with laws of libel, privacy, and copyright which may be involved in his/her use of photographs as well as manuscripts and all other records. Services

  • The Area Research Center & University Archives is open to the university community as well as the general public. An archives staff member is always present to aid you with your research free of charge during public hours. Appointments are unnecessary.

  • Photocopying and microform printing are available for a small fee.

  • Guest internet access is available in the center as well as the main floor of the library.

  • Scanning equipment is available; patrons are allowed to scan photographs or documents onto their own disk free of charge or to have them printed for a fee.

  • For researchers who are unable to visit the center, many collections can be transferred to other centers throughout the state via a library courier. Contact the archivist for more information.

  • The archives staff will do limited research for patrons who are unable to visit the center. Please visit the UW-River Falls Area Research Center and University Archives Collections pages before completing a request form to ensure that the center houses records that correspond to your request. To request research please fill out a request form. Be very specific with the information you provide on the form for better and faster results.

Policies

  • Researchers who visit the center are required to register in the daily log book at the beginning of each session and must complete an annual registration form during each fiscal year.

  • All personal belongings must be stored in a designated area.

  • Food and beverages are not allowed in the center. The use of pens may be restricted by archives staff.

  • Items in the reading room do not circulate. The archives stacks are closed to all except authorized personnel.

  • The use of certain records is restricted by statute or donor agreement. All materials are subject to copyright.

  • For the protection of its collections, the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) reserves the right to restrict use of unprocessed or fragile materials. Permission must be sought from an archives staff member before copying any bound volume, oversized sheet, or fragile item.

  • Written permission from the State Archivist must be obtained before any materials belonging to the WHS can be published. Any reprinted image must be accompanied by written credit to the Area Research Center & University Archives.

  • Image duplication must not violate donor agreements or copyright laws nor may duplicated images be used for commercial purposes.
